Borsalino made and still make some of the finest hats in the world. This one’s relatively old, though they’re quite difficult to date precisely. In quite a rare creamy grey colour. It fits nicely on my size 7 head, even though it’s marked size 6 7/8. This hat features the Borsalino take on the “Cavanagh” edge, designed and patented by the hatmaker who founded Cavanagh hats in the US. Every company seems to have had a version of this edge. During the felting process, the felt is folded back on itself over a wire or other device and felted back into the brim portion. You end up with the ridge-like edge you see here, with no seams or stitching. A very involved and expensive process!
